"I think they got their confidence up. We’ll see how this carries over in conference”

Coyotes take 2 of 3 from West LA

Cerro Coso and West Los Angeles combined for 52 runs over three games, but it was the Coyotes who came out on top in the series, winning two.

By taking two of three, Coso concludes the preconference schedule with a 4-5 record, heading into  a struggling San Bernardino Valley team on Thursday to begin a three-game set.

The Wolverines started the season losing seven straight, before taking  a two-game set against Compton.

Extra work pays dividends for Cerro Coso at Ventura

Twenty-one hits and 15 runs on offense.

A newcomer to the team pitching lights out for five innings.

Everything just came together for Cerro Coso on Wednesday, defeating a Ventura team who went to the playoffs last year, 15-3.

Coach Dick Adams said after losing three straight in San Diego, the team put in the work necessary to get better, and it paid off.

“This is a good group of guys; I’m not giving up on them”

Cerro Coso drops three straight in San Diego

Errors and a lack of timely hitting proved to be the down fall of the Cerro Coso baseball team, dropping three straight in San Diego.

The Coyotes (1-4) lost 13-3 to San Diego City, then 7-4 to Southwester and finally 9-3 to Grossmont.

“We need to hit,” said coach Dick Adams. “We need timely hitting. We need to hit the ball with runners on.”

“But when they’re on, they’re on.”

The fresh face of Coyote baseball

Cerro Coso had a large turnover from last season, leaving just four sophomores to lead a group into what should promise to be a very competitive season.

Coach Dick Adams, back at the helm for the 18th year, said the Foothill Conference will be exceptionally tough this year, with no push overs, as has been the case in past years.

This year will also mark a milestone for Adams, who will manage his 700th game. So long as there aren’t any game cancelations, the milestone will be reached on Feb. 27 in the first half of a home doubleheader against San Bernardino Valley College.

"You’re a winner.”

Sostarich’s bat, glove salvage Cerro Coso split in Oxnard

After suffering through an 11-run loss in game one against Oxnard, Cerro Coso rallied in the second half of a doubleheader, clinging to a two-run lead in the seventh and final inning.

And with a diving catch, Mykol Sostarich helped the Coyotes to earn a split, winning 6-5.
Oxnard plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the game 6-5 and had bases loaded with two outs in the inning, when lead off hitter was jammed on a 3-2 pitch that floated into the no-man’s land between the infield and center field.

“Like I told the girls, if we’re going to play at this level, we’ve got to know not to turn the ball over at will”

7-minute stretch sinks Coyotes against Barstow

After a lackluster first half, Cerro Coso seemed to have things rolling against Barstow, pulling to within two points with 7:30 left on the clock in the second half.

But that’s when Barstow went on a 19-0 scoring run to end the Coyotes’ hopes of a comeback, ultimately winning 55-34.

“He did a great job subbing,” said Cerro Coso coach Tom Heck of his Barstow counterpart Tim Woods. “He just had more folks to come in.”
