Brewers draft Cerro Coso's Franklin Romero, Jr.

Cerro Coso's Franklin Romero, Jr., was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round (616 overall), becoming the second in as many years to have his name called in MLB's First Year Player Draft.

“My heart just stopped for a minute,” said Romero in a phone interview. “I didn’t know what to do. I was out of my mind.”

Coyotes coach Dick Adams said he was ecstatic for Romero, who had scouts looking at his outfielder the entire 2009 season.

Cerro Coso's Jake Orr signs on with Colorado State University-Pueblo

Cerro Coso catcher Jake Orr signed on to play with Colorado State University at Pueblo on Wednesday, continuing a long line of Coyotes who have moved on to play for the school.

Orr becomes the 18th player in 17 years to move on to Pueblo, formally Southern Colorado University. That outpaces the next two closest schools — St. Mary’s and Nevada — who each had eight.

“It’s the greatest opportunity I’ve had so far,” Orr said. “(Cerro Coso) really helped to to where I’ll be going next year and I’m pretty excited about it.”

Coyotes win twin bill in an offensive barrage

Cerro Coso did something against LA City in a doubleheader it really hasn’t done all year against opponents — the Coyotes responded to giving up runs with scoring more runs.
The results paid off with especially in game one with a 13-10 win, but were more dramatic in game two with a 22-5 thrashing.

“It was a good effort today, bouncing back on last week’s losses,” said coach Dick Adams.

Salas deals but can’t prevent Chaffey doubleheader sweep

There was little more Cerro Coso coach Dick Adams could ask from his freshman starter, Nick Salas in game two against Chaffey.

The hurler kept his Coyotes in the game against Foothill Conference power Chaffey, but ultimately it wasn’t enough.

Cerro Coso lost both games of the doubleheader at Chaffey on Saturday, dropping Salas’ game 5-4 in 10 innings after losing game one, 9-1.

“We’re just so inconsistent. We’re inconsistent on hitting; we’re inconsistent on pitching,” said coach Dick Adams.

Coso overwhelms Aztecs

Cerro Coso completed its second Foothill Conference sweep on Saturday, defeating Barstow in a doubleheader, 12-2 and 10-7.

“We just told them we’ve got to get back on the winning track,” said coach Dick Adams. “We lost three last week, but you know, next week’s opponent is way better than these guys. Next week’s opponent is winning the league, so we can be spoilers and get after it. But you know we did what we had to do here which was win here.”
