When one thinks of local athletic icons, Cerro Coso Coyotes Head
Coach Larry Bird would be at or near the top of the list. Bird is in his
17th season at the helm of the Coyotes, after leading Burroughs High
School to a CIF championship in 1982. The coach has seen many players
and teams come and go throughout the area, and is a major part of the
successes that the Cerro Coso athletic program has seen over the years.
Bird recently discussed his impressions of the value of an athletic
program at the community college level, particularly in a small
community such as Ridgecrest.
