Coyotes' 22 Steals Set School Record But Still Fall to Rio HondoThe Cerro Coso Women's basketball team set a school record by forcing Rio Hondo into 27 turnovers and getting 22 steals. Unfortunately, they missed lay ups and short shots in the transition and again struggled shooting the basketball. The Lady Coyotes went 16 for 82 for the field and shot 18% from the 3 point line, falling 51-47 on Wednesday night in Whittier. Coach Tom Heck described it as one the more strange games he has ever seen. "Usually, if you get 22 steals you win, but usually if you shoot 16 from 82 from the field, you lose. I was impressed with our group tonight, we not a pressing and trapping teams, and we did it for 30 minutes of that game. Against a team like Rio Hondo, manufacturing points was the only thing that kept us in the game." Stephanie Hawkins, who played less than half the game due to the illness, led the team with 20 points. "Step showed great toughness tonight, even trying to play" added Heck. Cheyenne Begay had 8 points and La Tasha Trainer added 7. "We struggled scoring inside a half court setting and we were ice cold form the 3 point line. Tonight's efforts showed me we really have heart," Heck concluded. The Lady Coyotes host Chaffey at 6pm Monday Jan 31 at the Raymond McQue Athletics Complex. Fri Jan 21, 2011
