Cerro Coso Concludes Season

Cerro Coso Athletic Department

The Cerro Coso women's Basketball team concluded their season with a tough 66-37 loss to #9 ranked Chaffey Panthers this past Saturday afternoon in Rancho Cucamonga.

The Coyotes who upset Chaffey earlier this season shot a season low 17% from the field and could only hit 3 of 24 3 point attempts. The Coyotes finish the season with a 10-14 record and 6th place in the tough Foothill Conference. "It was a disappointing way to end our season, but Chaffey is playing very well right now, I wouldn't want to have to play them in the playoffs", said Coyote Coach Tom Heck.

The coyotes had two players honored by the Foothill Conference. Point guard Stephanie Hoskins from Detroit, was named to the All Conference First team. Forward LaTasha "Pogo" Trainor from Knight High School in Palmdale was named All Conference Honorable mention. Stephanie could easily be the best point guard in our league next year, and LaTasha has the potential to be All Conference First Team next year and one of the top players in our league.

We only had one sophomore this year (Celia Acevado- Lone Pine, CA) so we had a lot of freshmen who got some key experience, added Heck. The team suffered a major blow when they lost power forward Shaniqua Richey due to a knee injury after the fourth game of the season. Richey who would have been one of the top scorers and rebounders hopes to return to the coyotes next season.
