Dawgs to host 2 tourney games

By Nathan Ahle, The Daily Independent

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team has clinched third place in the Foothill Conference, and has earned two home dates in the first-ever Foothill Conference Tournament this week.

This afternoon, the Dawgs will host the Rio Hondo Roadrunners, the fourth-place team in the conference.

Earlier this season, Cerro Coso dropped two out of three to Rio Hondo in their season series, with Matt Smith earning the team's only win.

Staff ace Ryan Penn will go for his 10th win of the season this afternoon.

Thursday, the team will host College of the Desert, and Smith will be the likely starter. The left-hander picked up a win Saturday against COD in a doubleheader sweep.

Saturday afternoon, the Coyotes will head to Rancho Cucamonga to face the Chaffey College Panthers. Cerro Coso took two out of three games against Chaffey earlier in the year, and a state playoff at-large bid could be at stake.

The two home games this week at the Dawg Yard feature free admission and 2:30 p.m. start times. All three games can be heard on KLOA 1240 AM radio, with Tom Heck at the microphone.
