Breaking a nine-game losing streak, the Cerro Coso Coyotes defeated the
Victor Valley College Rams Thursday afternoon in Victorville, winning
6-2.
The game was a huge break for the Coyotes, who needed the win to get
back into the Foothill Conference playoff picture. With eight games
remaining before the conference tournament, the Coyotes are working to
secure a higher tournament seed.
"We can't look back, we have to look forward and start from here," said
Coyotes Head Coach Dick Adams.
Adams felt that Thursday's game was a good start, as the Dawgs got
"timely hitting" and were able to put the leadoff man on base in various
innings.
Cerro Coso took the lead in the seventh inning after Andrew Masojc, who
went 3-for-3 with two RBI, singled to start the inning. Norm Love
followed with a hit that moved Masojc to second, and Masojc then moved
to third on a passed ball. Rodney Black then laid down a perfect squeeze
bunt that scored the runner and gave the Dawgs a 3-2 lead that they
would not surrender.
Black added a triple that scored two insurance runs in the ninth.
Aaron Keplinger pitched for Cerro Coso and went seven innings, allowing
10 hits but only two runs. Ryan Short pitched the ninth for a save.
Cerro Coso will host Victor Valley in a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
