The Cerro Coso Coyotes dropped the first game of the Foothill Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Rancho Cucamonga, falling to the second-seeded Chaffey College Panthers 4-1.

Aaron Keplinger pitched seven solid innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, four walks, and striking out two, but it wasn't enough, as Chaffey's starting pitcher, Chris Rice, held the Coyotes in check with a complete-game performance.

The Panthers took the lead with two runs off Keplinger in the third inning and a solo run in the fourth, but the Coyotes clawed back into the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning.

Andrew Masojc, who led the Coyotes with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, singled to start the inning and took second base on an error. Norm Love grounded out, moving Masojc to third. The Coyote third-baseman scored on a soft single to centerfield by second baseman Rodney Black, who went 1-for-3.

Cerro Coso mustered only seven hits, with Masojc the only Coyote to have more than one hit.

The Coyotes will travel to San Bernardino Valley College Thursday and College of the Desert Saturday to close out their season.
