The annual Coyote Summer Youth Baseball Camp kicked off Monday at Cerro
Coso Community College, with local youth playing on the baseball field
each morning this week.
According to camp organizer and Coyotes Head Coach Dick Adams, about 50
youth ages seven to 14 are participating in the camp.
Adams will receive special help in leading the youngsters this week.
Former Coyotes Jon Foisy and Casey Groves recently completed their
college baseball careers and returned to Ridgecrest to help with the
camp, while current Dawgs, including Kade McAllister, are also on hand
to help the players.
Youth participate in hitting, running and throwing drills during the
week-long camp. Campers are divided into groups, with younger children
playing in the spacious outfield of the Dawg Yard, while the older youth
work out on the infield.
The day's activities often conclude with a "game," with teams chosen and
skills applied in game situations.
The Daily Independent will present more from the annual camp later in
the week.
