Frederick Bella Vargas, who was born in America, but now lives in the
Dominican Republic, has chosen to attend Cerro Coso Community College.
Assisting in his choice is the encouragement of baseball coach Dick
Adams, who is eager to add the talented young man to his team roster.
Bella Vargas has also been awarded the Chuck Dye Scholarship of $1,000
to assist with his educational expenses. Dye was the father of Wendy
Adams, wife of the coach, and a strong supporter of Cerro Coso’s
baseball program.
“This is an exceptional student athlete,” said Coach Adams. “I got a
chance to watch him play ball in the RBI World Series in Long Beach. His
team from the Dominican Republic made it to the final four, but lost in
the semi-final game. It is apparent that he has the talent to make it to
the major league with some work on his arm. He is incredibly quick on
his feet.”
Bella Vargas also has good grades and is excited at the opportunity to
attend Cerro Coso. He hopes to transfer to a university to complete his
education after graduation. His goal is to play baseball professionally.
“In my country, if you don’t play baseball, you’re nobody,” Bella Vargas
said.
