Cerro Coso's baseball team has won its second straight game Saturday
defeating El Camino 4-1 after snapping its six-game skid.
Coach Dick Adams said it was one of the best games the Coyotes have
played all season, with error not rearing its ugly head and a strong
outing by Jessie Zuber.
“The team is finding right time start gel before conference starts,”
Adams said. “We've put two wins together and knocked off two quality
programs.”
The Dawgs ended a six-game losing streak on Feb. 24 by beating No.
8-ranked Golden West in 10 innings.
Cerro Coso held a 1-1 tie through seven innings before the Dawgs broke
stalemate with a pair of runs.
Drew Hill reached on an error and was sacraficed over to second by Cody
Reiger.
Mark Sayas picked up his third or four hits as he drove Hill home to
break the tie. He was driven home by Royal Good who got a base hit that
skipped off first base and into right field for a 3-1 lead.
El Camino, who defeated the Coyotes 9-8 at home on Feb. 20, drew first
blood in the opening inning with a two-out base hit to score a run.
Cerro Coso answered the run in the third inning when Sayas hit a double
and was driven in two batters later by Jon Proesl who smacked a
two-bagger of his own.
The Coyotes notched an insurance run in the ninth with a squeez play by
Cody Rieger to bring Good home from third.
Coyote bats were backed up by pitching, led by Zuber who went five
innings giving up three hits while striking out four.
Adams pulled Zuber to save him for the conference opener against Barstow
on Thursday.
He was replaced by Brett Cobbley who went two scoreless innings.
Kyle Tullis came in the eighth inning, striking out one batter and
setting the stage for Tyler McAllister to record the save in the ninth.
Despite loading the bases with two outs, McAllister punched out two
batters en route to his third save on the year.
Adams said he was pleased with how the Dawgs performed, out hitting the
Warriors 9-5.
“Everything just worked for us,” Adams said. “So we didn't get whole
barage, but were doing everything right.”
Cerro Coso will begin conference play on Thursday against a Barstow team
that has already posted on of the highest win total in several years
with a 7-10 record, but has dropped three-straight to Chaffey. First
pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
