Saturday was a type of day that the Cerro Coso baseball team hasn’t seen for awhile.

In a doubleheader against Victor Valley, the Coyote bats were on fire, scoring a combined 37 runs in the two games, winning the first 17-3 and the nightcap 20-7.

The offense racked up a combined 29 hits hitting a .408 on Saturday. The team had a combined batting average below .275 coming into the game.

“Our starters got on top of the game and got things done and gave us a chance to score some runs and the kids just got it rolling,” said head coach Dick Adams. “They’re struggling, but in the second game the kid they sent out to the mound had pretty good arm strength. They pulled him too soon, I think.”

Adams said it was a nice turn around from the previous game where Cerro Coso escaped with an 8-4 win thanks to second chances given by the Rams.

“I thought we played well at home,” Adams said. “We struggled at their place ... but we put them away late.”

Adams added that he was happy with the way the team performed which allowed him to play the bench a little more and get pitchers into the game who haven’t played for a while.

Tyler McAllister lit up the rams in the first game, going 3-4 with five RBIs. He had an RBI in every plate appearance, including a two-run double in the first.

McAllister finished the day going 4-8 with seven RBIs and scored two runs of his own.

Jon Proesl had the best hitting day going 5-7 for the two games, including 3-3 in the first game. He scored six times and drove in one.

Kyle Hanson and Fred Bello each had four hit days with Bello driving in six runs.

Jessie Zuber and Brett Cobbley combined in the two games to shut Victor Valley down. Zuber went five of seven innings, gave up two hits and one run. Cobbley went six of nine giving up three runs on four hits and one walk, fanning five.

The Coyotes will return to action Thursday to take on Mt. San Jacinto at Cerro Coso starting at 2:30 p.m.
