Each brought something unique to Cerro Coso's table this season, and now
all three are being recognized for that.
Pitcher Adam Garner, shortstop Mark Sayas and leftfielder Paul Saville
were named All-Foothill Conference this week.
Saville, a sophomore from Burlington, Ontario, Canada batted .323 on the
season, kicking that average up to .342 in conference competition.
Saville was also named Fire Mountain Foundation Athlete of the Year. He
earned a 3.95 grade point average, and is committed to play next season
at Div. I Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
“He's a quality person,” said CCCC head coach Dick Adams of Saville.
“He's very strong academically...That made it easy to get him into a D-I
with his talent.”
Fellow sophomore Garner went 7-7, but his record wasn't indicative of
his season.
The 6-foot-4 righthander from Toronto had a 3.41 ERA and 82 strikeouts
in 97 innings of work.
“Garner was our No. 1 guy all year,” Adams said. “He took on the tough
assignments, and he battled.”
Garner has offers from Chicago State, University of Tampa and Oklahoma
Bapist.
Sayas is the freshman of the group, and according to Adams “has a really
bright future ahead of him.”
The shortstop batted .367 with 29 RBI, 12 doubles and five triples.
“Sayas was our ‘Go Guy,'” Adams said.
The Las Vegas native has one season remaining at Cerro Coso. Adams said
his strong play, combined with hard work in the classroom, “will get him
some real nice [college] offers.”
