Jason Ruiz begins his first year as an assistant baseball
coach/Adjunct Instructor at Cerro Coso College. Coach Ruiz has two years
Division I coaching experience at Southern Utah University, Cedar City,
Utah where he worked with the infielders, coached third base and
recruited.
As a player, Jason played two seasons each at SUU and Community College
of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas, NV. Ruiz was a first team
All-Mid-Continent Conference selection and the league batting champion
in 2004 as he hit .398, hitting safely in 38 of 49 games. He finished
his career as a .329 hitter and is tied for eighth all-time at SUU in
doubles (25) and walks (52), t-ninth in hits (122) and t-10th in stolen
bases (23).
Ruiz academically was a 2004 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District VIII second team selection. He completed his work on his
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from SUU last May.
His playing days (2001-2002) at CCSN were capped off with a trip to
Grand Junction and a NJCAA Baseball Championship.
Here at Cerro Coso, Coach Ruiz has taken on the duties with the
infielders, recruiting, field preparation, assisting with fundraising
and coaching third base. “He has hit the pavement with his feet running”
say Dick Adams, Athletic Director/Head Coach. “Jason is a mature young
man with tremendous coaching knowledge and ability. He has a bright
future ahead of him” continues Adams.
Jason Ruiz is single and lives in Ridgecrest where he works as an
adjunct instructor in Cerro Coso’s Physical Education Department.
