“Kids like that are hard to find this day and age.”

Lady Coyote season ends in loss: Coso finishes 05-06 with 20 wins

A successful-yet-injury-plagued season came to a “disappointing” end Saturday with a 54-46 loss at Chaffey College.

In a fitting conclusion to what was a hard knocks campaign, Coso (20-9, 8-6 Foothill Conference) lost Paris Allen in the first half. She suffered a wrist injury and was relegated to the sidelines for the rest of the night. FULL ARTICLE

“There were not a lot of second chances [for us]...”

Coyotes falls 58-53: Home finale ends in disappointment

Second chance points were the difference yesterday for Cerro Coso in a 58-53 loss to Foothill Conference opponent College of the Desert.

“There were not a lot of second chances [for us],” said Coso head coach Tom Heck. “And down the stretch, they got second chances.”

College of the Desert took advantage of a gap in the Coso frontline — that being the absence of forward Mariah Bomberry, who missed yesterday’s game due to family obligations.

Without their 6-foot post presence, the Lady Coyotes were hindered on the boards, Heck said.

“Mariah’s our best rebounder,” he said. FULL ARTICLE

“It was a tale of two halves...”

Coso unable to survive second half tempo: 66-58 decision puts postseason in ‘dire straits’

A 7-0 Antelope Valley run in the final minute-and-a-half Monday night sealed a 66-58 loss for the Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes.

Despite leading 27-21 at halftime, Coso (20-7, 8-4 Foothill Conference) trailed for much of the second half, thanks to a high-pressure, uptempo brand of AVC (23-6, 10-1) basketball after the intermission.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said Coso head coach Tom Heck. “[Antelope Valley] seemed to have an answer for everything.” FULL STORY

“With a minute left in the game, I told our kids that this is fun,” Heck said. “This is what competition should be.”

Lady Coyotes win by one point — again

“Intense - very intense,” was the way Cerro Coso head coach Tom Heck described the Lady Coyotes 66-65 win Wednesday night at Mt. San Jacinto.

Coso (19-6, 8-3 Foothill Conference) fended off a last ditch effort for the third time in four games.

With Mt. San Jacinto leading 65-63, Mariah Bomberry nailed a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left in regulation.

The Lady Eagles missed on the other end, and Coso retained possession. FULL ARTICLE

Coso ladies take two at home, head into final stretch Wed.

A tenacious full court press was the difference for Cerro Coso in a 68-53 win over San Bernardino Valley Monday night, on the heels of a 61-60 win Saturday against Chaffey.

The Lady Coyotes (18-6, 7-3 Foothill Conference) couldn’t seem to find the hole in the first half Monday, going four minutes before scoring their first field goal.

Dar’Shelle Lynch made certain Coso didn’t fall too far behind, though, scoring 16 of the Coyotes’ 27 points through 20 minutes.

Coming out of the lockerroom trailing 29-27, Coso applied a full court pressure that rendered SBVC’s offense helpless. FULL STORY

"...we knew we had to change the tempo and take chances..."

Lady Coyotes push tempo, rout San Bernardino 76-55

A strong second half was the difference Wednesday night in a 76-55 Cerro Coso women’s basketball win over Foothill Conference challenger, San Bernardino Valley.

The Lady Coyotes (15-6, 4-3 Foothill Conference) shook a 35-30 halftime deficit and abismal 19 percent shooting from the floor with a 17-4 run to begin the second half, and never looked back.

“We weren’t in foul trouble and we knew we had to change the tempo and take chances,” said Cerro Coso head coach Tom Heck. “Fortunately, it worked tonight”  FULL STORY

The Lady Coyotes kept it close early, without the assistance of the previous game's high scorer, Paris Allen. FULL STORY

It’s basketball season again at Cerro Coso Community College, with the Lady Coyotes tipping off their season late Saturday night at Life Pacific College in San Dimas.

Injuries and a lack of size doomed Cerro Coso last season, as the Coyotes slumped to a losing record. However, as Head Coach Tom Heck, the winningest coach in the program’s history, enters his fifth season on the Cerro Coso bench, there is reason to be optimistic. Full story
