Cerro Coso holds on to beat Rio Hondo

By Nathan Ahle, The Daily Independent

"We had a good first half..."

The Cerro Coso Coyotes won their fourth game of the season Thursday night, defeating Rio Hondo 61-50 in a game played at Cerro Coso.

The Coyotes (4-5, 1-1 Foothill) led throughout, cruising through the game until the final few minutes. Cerro Coso led by as many as 28 points in the second half, but Rio Hondo rallied to make things interesting near the end.

"It felt like two games," said Coyotes Head Coach Tom Heck. "Give Rio Hondo credit, they hit five three-pointers late."

"We had a good first half, but we're inconsistent," Heck continued. "They tried to run us out of the building - play 'Helter Skelter' basketball - which made it hard to get set."

Cetra Banks led Cerro Coso with 12 points, followed by Stephanie Hart with 11. Marlanda Chee and Candace Poleyestewa chipped in with seven each.
