The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes dropped their second straight conference
game Wednesday night, losing to the College of the Desert Roadrunners,
67-45.
Desert, a perfect 4-0 in Foothill Conference play, led Cerro Coso
throughout, especially on the glass, outrebounding the Coyotes 42-21.
"They are a good team with good size and shooting ability and their
seven sophomore provide experience and leadership," said Heck of the
Roadrunners. "We did get some shots inside tonight but we just couldn't
finish. We rarely get any second chances."
Fernanda Yazzie led the Coyotes in scoring with 20 points, including six
three-pointers. Stephanie Hart added 10 points, while Cetra Banks
chipped in with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Shooting was a problem all evening for the Coyotes (6-9, 3-2 Foothill).
Cerro Coso hit only seven of 16 shots from the perimeter, and connected
on only seven of 32 shots from two-point range.
"Our team goal is to try and finish at .500 in the conference," said
Heck. "We were picked to finish eighth (of nine teams), and we'd like to
try and finish better than that. We just have to stay positive and keep
working to get better."
The Coyotes will have their hands full Saturday night, when they travel
to Lancaster to face Antelope Valley College, the third-ranked junior
college team in the state.
"This is like going to play Duke," said Heck. "They (AVC) haven't lost
at home in two years. They have 14 great players and they run and gun
for 40 minutes."
