The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes basketball team picked up another
non-conference victory Thursday night, as they traveled to the coast and
defeated Oxnard College, 63-60.
Despite struggling from the outside all night long, Cerro Coso (5-2)
overcame a five-point halftime deficit to grab the victory.
“We played a lot better in the second half, and made a few adjustments
that worked for us,” said Coyotes Head Coach Tom Heck.
One of these adjustments was a switch to a “triangle-and-two” defense
for the Coyotes, which resulted in key defensive stops down the stretch.
In addition, the Coyotes employed a full court press to force turnovers
by Oxnard.
Brenda Cantrell and Dara'Shelle Lynch battled well for Cerro Coso.
“Those two really limited the touches of Oxnard's best players and that
made a difference,” said Heck.
Angel Lash led Cerro Coso with 18 points and 13 rebounds, with Lynch
adding 16 points and five steals.
Brittany Graybill scored 12 points and six rebounds.
Cerro Coso will take to the road again Monday, facing Cuyamaca College
in San Diego. The Coyotes' next home game is Wednesday.
