The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes basketball team defeated Oxnard 74-71 in a non-conference game at the college Saturday.

Cerro Coso (7-3) jumped out to a first-half lead, holding an advantage by as many as 10 points before the intermission.

Oxnard, which had lost to Cerro Coso on its home floor earlier in the season, pulled back into contention, but Cerro Coso took the game when Kaylina Abeyta was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer with only one second remaining and the game tied. Abeyta hit all three shots to give the locals the win. She finished with 12 points and six assists.

“We did a great job of keeping our poise today, and we played well in the last two minutes,” said Coyotes Head Coach Tom Heck.

Angel Lash led the Coyotes in scoring with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Dar'Shelle Lynch added 10 points and Ashley Logan 12 in the effort.

Heck also credited Shereena Gene, who came off the bench and hit four of five shots down the stretch, including a late game-tying hoop.

Cerro Coso will hit the road for its next game, a matchup with Mendocino College in Ukiah Thursday.
