PALM DESERT - The Cerro Coso women's basketball team defeated College of
the Desert on Monday night 70-53 in Palm Desert.
The Coyotes got off to a slow start making two of their first 14 shots
and falling behind by nine points in the early going.
Cerro Coso got back on track and went on a 12-2 run late in the first
halve to take a 26-16 lead at the intermission.
The second half saw both teams trade baskets before the Coyotes finally
pulled away building a 24-point lead and eventually winning 70-53.
The Coyotes were led in coring by freshman Lynette Dineyahze who had
five 3-pointers on her way to 21 points on the night.
It was Dineyahze's first game back after a knee injury that sidelined
her for a month and will require surgery in the off season.
Angel Lash and Ashley Logan both had double-doubles with Lash sinking 20
points with 10 rebounds and Logan collecting 13 points and 10 boards.
Coach Tom Heck said he was pleased with the effort of the team,
especially former Burro Brittany Greybill, who finished with eight
points and 14 rebounds, and Dineyehze who were both playing hurt.
“I give credit to Lynette and Brittany, they're both playing in some
pain, but are gutting it out,” Heck said. “We struggled again from the
parameter and free-throw line, but did better on the boards.
The Coyotes were five of 24 from the 3-point arc and 15 of 43 from the
free-throw line.
“Our shooting will have to improve for us to have any chance to compete
with our top conference teams,” Heck said.
The Coyotes are now 12-5 over all and 1-2 in Foothill Conference play.
Cerro Coso will next host Life Pacific College on Saturday starting at 5
p.m.
