Coyotes mauled by Wolverines, lose 85-46

The Daily Independent

“We needed a perfect game to compete with them and obviously, that didn't happen."

SAN BERNARDINO - The Cerro Coso Women's basketball team dropped an 85-46 Foothill Conference road game to San Bernardino Valley on Monday.

San Bernardino (14-6, 4-1), ranked No. 13 in Southern California, used a full court man press hat forced numerous Coyote turnovers.

The Wolverines led 10-6 at the 9:40 mark of the first half before going on a 10-0 run, taking a 14-point lead into the intermission.

In the second half, the Coyotes committed eight straight turnovers and the Wolverines scored the first 16 points of the second half.

Cerro Coso didn't put up its first points until the 10 minute mark of the second half.

“San Bernardino is a very athletic, big and quick team with great depth,” said coach Tom Heck. “We needed a perfect game to compete with them and obviously, that didn't happen."

“We actually didn't shoot that badly, when we could get a shot. We struggled to even get into an offense with their severe pressure they put on us.”

Angel Lash led the Coyotes with 15 points and Lynette Dinyazhe added 13.

The Coyotes resume conference play tonight against College of the Desert at 6 p.m. in the McCue Center to begin a three game home stand.
