Lady Coyotes survive cold shooting day to defeat Life Pacific College

The Daily Independent

“The good news is that we won the game.”

SAN DIMAS - The Cerro Coso women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Life Pacific College on Saturday afternoon 68-62.

The Coyotes trailed by 11 at the intermission and used a full court 2-2-1 press and caused turnovers that led the comeback

With four minutes to play and the game tied at 58, Coso's Dar'Shelle Lynch stole the ball and scored a lay-up to put the Coyotes ahead for the first time in the game. The ladies held on down the stretch.

Coso struggled offensively, hitting 25 percent from the field and 18 percent in the first half.

“The bad news is we were two for 25 from the 3-point area and one of those we banked in,” said coach Tom Heck. “The good news is that we won the game.”

Heck said the team was able to work around the Warriors' defense, but were unable to capitalize on several opportunities.

“Life Pacific packed its 2-3 zone and we did a good job of moving the ball on the parameter and had some great open looks, we just didn't make the shots,” he said.

Angel Lash led all scorers with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Lynch had 23 points, followed by Ashley Logan with 12.

Coso played without Sherena Gene and former Burroughs standout Brittany Graybill, who are both injured. Gene will be out for the remainder of the season.

The Lady Coyotes improve to 16-8 (3-5 in Foothill Conference play) and will next hit the court against Antelope Valley on Saturday.
