VICTORVILLE - The Cerro Coso women's basketball team grinded out a 56-51
Foothill Conference victory over Victor Valley College on Monday.
“We have some gutsy kids that are playing hurt,” said coach Tom Heck. “I
had three kids play tonight that could easily not played and I couldn't
of blamed them one bit. I knew we had to keep the game tempo as slow as
possible and we were able to do that.”
Coso led 28-22 at the half and led most of the second half by eight to
10 points.
The Lady Coyotes held a 54-44 lead with two minutes to go and held off a
late Victor Valley surge.
Angel Lash led all scorers with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Dar'Shelle
Lynch had 11 points and Ashley Logan added nine.
Heck praised Brittany Graybill for coming off the bench and playing
hurt, collecting eight rebounds.
“Brit just played through the pain and did a great job defensively,
shutting down one of their top players,” Heck said. “The Coyotes are now
4-5 in conference play and 17-8 overall. The Coyotes will next travel to
Antelope Valley College, the No. 7 ranked team in Southern California,
on Saturday in Lancaster.
