Going up against the No. 5 ranked team in Southern California, and
losing one of its top players in the first half, Cerro Coso lost to Mt.
San Jacinto College 78-42 on Wednesday.
The Eagles remain atop the Foothill Conference with a 12-0 record (22-5
overall). The Lady Coyotes fall to 5-7 in conference play and 18-10
overall.
Coach Tom Heck said he was fortunate to have five players to finish the
game with Dar'Shelle Lynch going down in the first 10 minutes of the
game, Ashley Logan being sick for most of the game and LaShonda Jones
unable to play because of a death in her family.
Heck added that he is hoping the team will be able to get healthy enough
to finish the season.
“I hope we have enough folks to play the last two games,” Heck said. “We
are just going to circle the wagons and to the best we can against San
Bernardino and Antelope (Valley).”
Despite being sick, Logan led the team with 12 points. She was followed
by Lash who scored 10 on the night.
Leading rebounder was Brittany Graybill who pulled down six boards
adding to her eight points on the night.
The team went 2-14 from the 3-point arc and shot less than 25 percent
from the field.
Heck added that the team coughed up the ball too much.
“We just turned the ball over too much to beat a good team,” Heck said.
“The kids on the team are learning and we are going to try to reload for
next year.”
But he still gave credit to the Eagles saying they should do well in the
junior college playoffs.
“They or Antelope Valley can win the whole thing,” Heck said.
