Cerro Coso’s losing streak was extended to four games with a 77-54 loss
to Rio Hondo on Tuesday.
The Lady Coyotes now hold a 1-4 overall record and are 0-2 in Foothill
Conference play. Rio Hondo improves to 8-4 overall, according to its Web
site.
Cerro Coso found itself flat through most of the game, shooting 3-22
from beyond the arc. The Roadrunners, however made two third of their
shots from the field.
The Coyotes were led by Sherena Gene who put up 18 points and came down
with eight rebounds.
Her teammate Jacque Marshall had a solid day on the boards with 15
rebounds.
Rounding out the Coyotes top players was Brenda Cantrell with seven
points and four assists. Cantrell returned to the lineup after missing
the past couple of games with an injury suffered in an accident over the
Thanksgiving weekend.
But where Head Coach Tom Heck got one player back, he lost another to
injury. Mariah Bomberry, who has proven to be a solid player for Heck
and Cerro Coso, was unavailable against Rio Hondo.
Heck also gave special credit to Marshall for playing on a bad ankle.
“Jacque Marshall played really, really well with a lot of pain in her
right ankle,” Heck said. “She really did a good job and she was in all
kinds of pain. We really want to give a lot of accolades to her.”
Cerro Coso will look to pick up its first conference win and end the
current losing streak when the team takes on Barstow College at home
Friday night at home starting at 6 p.m.
