Coyotes finish season, feature 4 All-Conference players

The Cerro Coso Coyotes wrapped up their 2005 season with two games Thursday and Saturday in the Foothill Conference Tournament.

The Coyotes lost to San Bernardino Valley College Thursday, falling 11-8. Despite the loss, Cerro Coso traveled to Palm Desert to face the College of the Desert Roadrunners and grabbed a 2-1 win in the season finale. Full Article

Coyotes ready for Foothill Conference Tournament

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team spent its week off last week working out at the Dawg Yard and playing the waiting game.

The wait is over, and the Dawgs have learned that they will take the fifth seed in the eight-team Foothill Conference Tournament, thanks to their 12-12 record in conference play, and will play all three games in the round-robin tournament on the road. Full Article

Heading into a bye week before the start of the Foothill Conference tournament, the Cerro Coso Coyotes earned a split with the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles at the Dawg Yard Saturday. The Coyotes won the first game 10-1, but dropped the nightcap 15-8. Full Article

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team took two of three games from the Antelope Valley College Marauders, splitting a Saturday doubleheader.

The Coyotes won the first game 5-2, but dropped the second game 6-3. Full Article

Cerro Coso Coyotes Head Coach Dick Adams was very pleased with his team's performance in a Saturday doubleheader against the Victor Valley College Rams at the Dawg Yard, as his Coyotes regained a foothold in the Foothill Conference playoff race, winning 8-3 and 18-5, earning a sweep of the season series of the Rams. Coyotes break out of slump with 6-2 win

Breaking a nine-game losing streak, the Cerro Coso Coyotes defeated the Victor Valley College Rams Thursday afternoon in Victorville, winning 6-2.

The game was a huge break for the Coyotes, who needed the win to get back into the Foothill Conference playoff picture. With eight games remaining before the conference tournament, the Coyotes are working to secure a higher tournament seed. Full Article

The Cerro Coso Coyotes made up a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon in Riverside, as they battled with Riverside City College. The game was a tightly-played affair, with the Coyotes ending up on the short end of a 2-1, 10-inning ballgame. Full Article

Matt Smith and the Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team were rained out Saturday in Rancho Cucamonga against the Chaffey College Panthers. The scheduled doubleheader was moved to this afternoon. Coyotes take see-saw battle with Chaffey

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team began a crucial series with the Chaffey College Panthers Thursday at the Dawg Yard, and got the series started right with a 12-6 win over the Panthers.

Aside from a fluky six-run Chaffey fifth inning in which the Coyotes committed two errors and were the victims of bad bounces, the previously undefeated Panthers were held off the scoreboard. Full Article

Cerro Coso wins 'war' with Barstow

The Cerro Coso Coyotes like playing Foothill Conference Saturday doubleheaders.

Cerro Coso swept its second twinbill in two weeks Saturday, taking the nightcap of a doubleheader at the Dawg Yard with a 19-11 win over Barstow.

"The score looks like a blowout, but the game was a war," said Coyotes Head Coach Dick Adams.  Full Article

Coyotes on the howl: Coso pounds Barstow

The Cerro Coso Coyotes avenged a disappointing 10-7 loss to the Barstow College Vikings Thursday with a 17-4 rout of the Vikings in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at the Dawg Yard.

The Coyotes sent sophomore lefty Matt Smith to the mound in search of his second win of the year. It was a successful outing for the lefty, who struck out five and allowed only one hit and no earned runs in a five-inning appearance. Full Article

Coyotes can't overcome Barstow's big 2nd

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team fell to 2-2 in Foothill Conference play Thursday in Barstow with a 10-7 loss to the Barstow College Vikings.

The Achilles' heel for the Coyotes (2-2 Foothill) in the game was the seven-run Barstow second inning off starter Adam Garner. Just as in last week's Thursday game against College of the Desert, the Coyotes found themselves far behind early in the game, but were unable to recover.  Full Article

The past few days have been a roller coaster ride for the Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team.

On Saturday, the Coyotes celebrated a successful sweep of the College of the Desert Roadrunners, but received devastating news Tuesday with word that pitching ace Caleb Gallagher is lost for the season due to a shoulder injury. Full Article

Such was the case at the Dawg Yard Thursday afternoon, as the College of the Desert Roadrunners and Cerro Coso Coyotes battled back and forth through all nine innings, with the Roadrunners pulling out a 12-11 win. Full Article

The Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team began the home portion of its 2005 schedule Friday and Saturday at the Dawg Yard with a three-game series with Golden West College. Hardball home opener today

After a 3-4 road trip to begin the season, the Cerro Coso Coyotes baseball team will open its 2005 home schedule this afternoon at the Dawg Yard with a doubleheader against the Golden West College Rustlers. The two teams will play an afternoon matinee Saturday at noon. Foothill Conference play is right around the corner, and the Dawgs will open the conference part of their schedule Thursday at home against the College of the Desert Roadrunners, beginning at 2 p.m. Full Article

Coso pitching solid in three-game series with Sequoias

With the majority of college baseball games in Southern California washed out due to rain this weekend, the Cerro Coso Coyotes were left scrambling for a place to play. Fortunately, the College of the Sequoias had an available field and a team ready to play, so the two squads battled in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday. Cerro Coso won the first game 10-8, but dropped the Sunday contests 5-4 in 11 innings and 4-3 in seven innings.  Full Article

Cerro Coso pounds L.A. City in makeup contest

With rain forcing the cancellation of a weekend tournament in San Luis Obispo, the Cerro Coso Coyotes traveled to Los Angeles Tuesday for a makeup game with L.A. City College. The game was a success all around for the Coyotes, who earned an 8-0 win. Full Article

Lady Coyotes continue to slide

"We did a nice job in our presses after we scored, but we just couldn't score enough."

The Cerro Coso Coyotes dropped their 10th straight game Monday night, losing 49-43 at home to the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles.

According to Head Coach Tom Heck, the Coyotes "struggled against 40 minutes of zone" played by Mt. San Jacinto. The Coyotes connected on only 12 of 65 shots from the field.

Lady Coyotes drop a pair of conference games

The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes basketball team continues to struggle near the end of the season, dropping a pair of conference games on Saturday and Monday.

On Saturday, the Coyotes lost 55-31 to the Victor Valley College Rams, falling to Victor Valley for the third time this year. Full Article

Coyote upset bid falls just short against Desert

"It was a scene out of a 'Rocky' movie."

That's how Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes basketball coach Tom Heck described his team's 63-59 loss to the College of the Desert Roadrunners at the Raymond A. McCue Athletic Complex Monday night.

The third-place Roadrunners battled a depleted Coyote roster. Cerro Coso (3-7) was forced to play without the services of Cetra Banks, the team's tallest player. Banks was away from the team for Monday night's contest.  Full Article

Lady Coyotes drop a heartbreaker to Mt. San Jacinto

The Cerro Coso Coyotes women's basketball team nearly stole a win on the road Wednesday against Mt. San Jacinto, losing what Head Coach Tom Heck called a "gut-wrenching" 46-45 decision.

The Coyotes (6-11, 3-4 Foothill) started slowly, connecting on only one of their first 13 shots before taking off on a 7-0 run to even the score at 21-21 at halftime. Full Article

Marauders overpower Coyotes

Battling the second-ranked women's basketball team in the state, the Cerro Coso Coyotes were unable to make anything happen against the Antelope Valley College Marauders Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, losing 79-39.

The 19-1 Marauders were simply too much for Cerro Coso (6-10, 3-3 Foothill) on the glass, outrebounding the Coyotes 52-26. Full Article

Roadrunners outlast Coyotes in conference tilt

"We just have to stay positive and keep working to get better."

The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes dropped their second straight conference game Wednesday night, losing to the College of the Desert Roadrunners, 67-45.

Desert, a perfect 4-0 in Foothill Conference play, led Cerro Coso throughout, especially on the glass, outrebounding the Coyotes 42-21.

"They are a good team with good size and shooting ability and their seven sophomore provide experience and leadership," said Heck of the Roadrunners. "We did get some shots inside tonight but we just couldn't finish. We rarely get any second chances." Full Article

Cerro Coso falls to Santa Ana

The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes fell to the Santa Ana Lady Dons 70-36 Monday night in a non-league game played at Santa Ana.

After a difficult trip south from Ridgecrest, Cerro Coso (6-8, 3-1 Foothill) got off to a slow start, as Santa Ana (4-7) scored the game's first 11 points. When the Coyotes finally scored at the 13:53 mark of the first half, the team was well out of contention and never fully recovered.  Full Article

The Cerro Coso Coyotes women's basketball team is playing its best basketball of the season.

Coso New Year's Tourney coming Dec. 29

The Raymond A. McCue Activities Complex will again be full of the sights and sounds of women's college basketball Dec. 29 and 30, as the second annual Cerro Coso New Year's Tournament comes to Ridgecrest.

Four teams will participate in this year's event: the Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes will be joined by squads from L.A. Pierce College, Citrus College and North Seattle Community College. Full Article

Cerro Coso holds on to beat Rio Hondo

"We had a good first half..."

The Cerro Coso Coyotes won their fourth game of the season Thursday night, defeating Rio Hondo 61-50 in a game played at Cerro Coso.

The Coyotes (4-5, 1-1 Foothill) led throughout, cruising through the game until the final few minutes. Cerro Coso led by as many as 28 points in the second half, but Rio Hondo rallied to make things interesting near the end. Full Article

The Cerro Coso Coyotes grabbed their second win of the young season Thursday night by beating another group of Coyotes, this squad from Cuyamaca College.

Cerro Coso improved to 2-4 on the season with a 49-33 win over Cuyamaca, thanks in large part to a 14-0 run to begin the game. Full Article

Lady Coyotes fall to Victor Valley, 69-53

"We hustled, and made a nice comeback at the end..."

The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes basketball team battled a tough opponent from Victor Valley College Wednesday night at Cerro Coso, losing 69-53 to fall to 1-4 on the young season.

The two teams battled evenly through the first half, with Coso down by six. Cerro Coso kept the deficit close throughout much of the second half, trailing 39-33 with 14:18 to go.

However, an 11-0 run by Victor Valley over the next four minutes extended the margin to 50-33, sinking the Coyotes' hopes.

The Coyotes fought back at the end, but it was too little, too late.  Full Article

The Cerro Coso Lady Coyotes opened their 2004-05 season with a split of their first two games.

The Coyotes lost 57-50 to the Victor Valley College Rams Thursday night. While the Rams are a Foothill Conference opponent, the game was an additional contest and will not count as part of the conference schedule. Cerro Coso battled back from a deficit but was unable to lead in the game.  Full Article

Baseball Team Christmas Tree Fundraiser

Each year the Cerro Coso Baseball team sells fresh-cut, top-quality Christmas trees as an annual fundraiser. If you are interested in support Coyote Baseball feel free to download the order form and return the completed form to Coach Adams by October 29th. There are several types of trees to choose from and wreathes and garlands are also available. Pick-up date is Saturday, December 4th. See order form for full details.

This is a fundraising program, which is tax deductible, and best of all, supports your schools student athletes. You will receive a full refund if you are not completely satisfied.  Profits from the first 11 years played a significant financial role towards the building of our press box, snack bar, batting cages, and purchase of the scoreboard. With our current budget, we must use these profits for supplies (bats, balls, helmets, catchers gear, etc.). We appreciate your support.

Girls' B-ball camp a success

Cerro Coso Community College played host to dozens of local girls this week for the college's annual girls' basketball camp.

Led by Lady Coyotes Head Coach Tom Heck, and with the help of Cerro Coso players who served as counselors, the youth received training and instruction in the fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and other skills. Full Article

Nearly 40 local youth are working on the fundamentals of basketball at the Cerro Coso youth basketball camp, held this week at the college.  Full Article

Coyote Boys Grades 2 – 12th July 26-30
Coyote Girls Grades 2 - 12th August 9-13

8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
(Doors open at 8 a.m. for drop-offs)

The camp will be conducted by Cerro Coso’s Women’s Basketball head coach Tom Heck and Immanuel Christian Varsity Boys head coach Allan Celestine. Camp fee is $70.00 (includes Camp T-shirt). According to Coyotes Head Baseball Coach Dick Adams, who organized the camp, 27 young baseball players from around the area assembled to learn the fundamentals of the game from Coyotes players and coaches. Full Article

The Ridgecrest Desert Dawgs, a summer-league team led by Dick Adams, will begin its 2004 season this weekend with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Cerro Coso College. Full Article

Coyote Summer Youth Baseball Camp
